IMS Recognized As Global Telematics Leader

Intelligent Mechatronic Systems, Inc. (IMS) has been named a global telematics service provider (TSP) leader for insurance telematics (also known as Usage-Based Insurance, or UBI). Research firm Ptolemus Consulting Group recently commended the Waterloo, Ontario-based company for its role in making automotive telematics a hot new offering in the emerging usage-based insurance (UBI) market.

Each year Ptolemus Consulting Group provides an international report based on several critical questions, including: what are the most successful UBI programs? What challenges do UBI models face? Which markets are most receptive to UBI? And who are the leaders in bringing automotive telematics to the insurance industry?

The study examined and evaluated eighteen telematics technology providers (TTPs), twenty-six telematics services providers, and six insurance market models. Twenty different countries figured prominently in the study, which featured ten-year market forecasts for sixteen different geographic areas.

Of the dozens of global TSPs evaluated by Ptolemus, IMS finished in the top grouping. It’s an impressive result for a company that was founded in 1999 by University of Waterloo professor Dr. Otman Basir, a leading intelligent systems expert. In the past fourteen years IMS has grown to include more than one hundred employees engaged in automotive research and development. The firm currently holds well over one hundred patents for informatics, driver analytics, and vehicle safety.

IMS’ high ranking is related to the complete, end-to-end solutions it offers insurance carriers looking for differentiated and segmented programs. One of the advantages of using IMS’ Powered by DriveSync platform is that organizations need only deploy once before easily expanding it to other connected car programs.
