HTS (Head Tracking System)
IMS' dynamic Head Tracking System (HTS) makes use of capacitive sensing technology, intelligent software algorithms and advanced signal processing. HTS is used to track the occupant's head position in a vehicle in three dimensions in real-time.
HTS is ideal for out-of-position/keep-out-zone detection used for dynamic airbag suppression. Safety regulations in the U.S. and elsewhere are expected to change to include out-of-position/keep-out-zone requirements in the near future. Select European and North American automotive companies are currently working towards the incorporation of IMS' HTS as an airbag suppression mechanism into their vehicles.
HTS can also be used for other non-safety system purposes in vehicles such as seat, head rest and mirror position adjustment.

An HTS uses a transmitting electrode installed in a vehicle seat, an array of receiving electrodes mounted in a vehicle headliner above the vehicle seat, and specialized embedded software that processes the capacitance data to track the occupant head position in real-time, in 3 dimensions. In contrast to other capacitance-based position sensors, IMS' HTS is robust to environmental factors such as water, and can perform within the critical timing constraints of airbag deployment.
