Intermediate / Senior Embedded Test Specialist (Full Time Position)

IMS is seeking an experienced Embedded Firmware Tester to assume key creative roles in developing innovative and progressive solutions in the areas of telematics and automotive safety. We are especially interested in motivated individuals with proficiency in testing wireless devices, GPS, GSM, and Bluetooth technologies.

Role Summary

Test embedded software for the DriveSync platform. Includes test planning, designing and execution using both manual and automated methods and tools, within an agile environment, particularly with exploratory and context-driven methodologies. Will participate in continuous improvements to agile and testing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop tools and automated scripts to accelerate and expand on breadth and depth of testing for embedded software.
  • Apply context-driven, session-based, and agile test methodologies. Use both manual and automated test methods and tools.
  • Work with developer and tester team members to design features, troubleshoot issues, and understand test results.
  • Contribute to the assessment of risks and help define and execute mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Create and maintain documentation for new features, test processes, training, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years QA/Test experience in a commercial software development environment
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Hands on experience testing firmware on embedded or wireless devices
  • Experience with UNIX based O/S's like Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, etc
  • Development experience with C desirable
  • Experience using scripting languages like Tcl/Tk, Expect, and Python to interface with and/or test embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience working with Bluetooth, GSM/GPRS, and GPS technologies
  • In-depth understanding of networking concepts, and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP
  • Familiar with database architectures and SQL queries (preferably MySQL)
  • Solid experience in security, performance and integration testing
  • Familiarity with battery management processes and issues an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and careful attention to detail.
  • Working experience with agile, risk-based, and context-driven testing methodologies.
