Introduction to IMS M2M and Telematics Solutions.
IMS is a world leader in M2M and Telematics solutions - but what is M2M & Telematics?
- M2M is an abbreviation of “Machine to machine” and refers to technology that connects wired and wireless machines to other machines with similar capabilities.
- Telematics is also an abbreviation and refers to the integration of telecommunications and informatics. While originally this had wide applications, telematics has evolved and not focuses mainly on motor vehicles.
- M2M & Telematics is thus the technology that links devices in motor vehicles to other machines, including applications, vehicles and infrastructure.
IMS M2M and Telematics Solutions
There are three main components to all IMS M2M Telematics solutions through our DriveSync platform:
- Devices – there are various devices that IMS designs, builds and uses, including “Built-in” devices for the newest vehicles on the market, “Plugged-in” devices for older vehicles and “Brought-in” devices (mobile phones and/or tablets) for all vehicles. These devices, combined with “Beamed-in” updates distribute intelligence and collect data from various driving events (such as driving beyond a pre-set “Geo-fence”).
IMS custom designs and builds devices to suit many M2M Telematics solutions. Our devices contain components for computing, storage, data transmission and for measuring events such as acceleration through an on-board accelerometer.
- Telecom links – IMS works with specific wireless partner s in North America to provide the connectivity to relays event data at pre-set intervals to an IMS application residing in another machine.
- Software – these programs collect, collate and help transform event data into useful intelligence and insights for our customers.
